Alumni Day has become a highly anticipated event each year, as it provides an opportunity for 10th through 12th Grade students to connect with Sierra Canyon graduates and gain valuable advice for their own college and career journeys. This year's panelists included Gary W. '22 (Cornell University), Batul S. '23 (Boston University), Kohl H. '16 (University of Pennsylvania, and University of Southern California), Addison P. '20 (Tulane University and Fordham Law School), Liza G. '19 (Chapman University), Talha R. '20 (University of Southern California), and Abdullah R. '21 (University of Southern California).
From alums in their first year of college to Trailblazers beginning their careers, this event allows Upper School students to hear a wide range of perspectives to better prepare them for the future. The panel shared their experiences, discussing topics such as class size, student-athlete expectations, social life, roommate dynamics, and academic workloads.
Sierra Canyon's College Counseling program formally begins in 10th Grade as each student meets with their college counselor to discuss their course selections, challenging themselves where it makes sense, and taking advantage of the many honors, AP, and elective course options offered at our School. While discussing his own academic journey, Abdullah shared, "Don't stress; work hard. Don't focus on the goal too much, and the results will come." Gary affirmed that his Sierra Canyon education prepared him for a rigorous college workload, a testament to the importance of developing good habits and skills in high school.
Before concluding the vibrant discussion, Batul imparted excellent advice, assuring students, "It's going to work out in the end the way it's supposed to." Sierra Canyon truly appreciate our alums dedicating their time to speak with our current students and giving them peace of mind as they progress through the college admission process.
