Miranda L. '25 Wins 1st Place at Science and Engineering Fair
Miranda L. '25 won 1st place in the Math/Computer Science category at the 74th annual Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair.
This year, over 900 students from public, parochial, and private schools in L.A. County participated in the oldest and largest regional science fair in the western United States. With 36 categories across Junior and Senior Divisions, from Animal Biology to Product Science, the event celebrates science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and students' achievements beyond the classroom.
After months of independent research into the advanced geometry of curved surfaces, Miranda's work culminated in a paper titled "Cohesive Self-Dual Yang-Mills Modules Over Four Manifolds." Her efforts paid off, and the judges recognized her submission for her outstanding commitment, achievement, and mastery of the relevant mathematics and physics, describing it as "thoroughly impressive work." Miranda said, "I really enjoyed explaining my project to people at the science fair, not only to the judges but also to the people in a similar age range who are also passionate about math and physics. By showcasing my project, which I worked on for about 25 hours every week, I have gained more insights into the future extension of the research. I am also very excited about the California Science & Engineering Fair (CSEF) on April 16!"
Across California, 30 local science fairs showcasing students' creativity and scientific prowess in Grades 6-12 provided a platform for students to present their projects and ideas and invited those who qualified to participate in the CSEF. About 100 students from L.A. County successfully advanced to the State level, highlighting their dedication to the field of science. In addition to her gold medal for 1st place, Miranda received a check for $100.
Congratulations to this true blue Trailblazer! We wish her the best of luck as she prepares for the upcoming CSEF!
