Sierra Canyon Welcomes the Year of the Dragon

Sierra Canyon celebrated the Lunar New Year with vibrant Lower and Upper Campus celebrations.

Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is one of the most significant cultural holidays across Asia. This year marks the
Year of the Dragon, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and good fortune. Elaborately decorated, the School buzzed with excitement as students, faculty, and staff joyously embraced the spirit and traditions of the holiday.

Students on the Lower Campus were immersed in a diverse array of festivities. Assemblies featured captivating Chinese lion dances accompanied by live music and mesmerizing face-changing performances. Students indulged in delicious snacks like spring rolls and participated in dumpling-making lessons before sampling these delectable treats. Additionally, students marveled at the intricate art of sugar painting and clay figurine crafting, enjoying sweet lollipops as souvenirs of the day's celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Upper Campus also enjoyed a myriad of Lunar New Year events. The festivities included more face-changing performances, a mahjong tournament, and delicious boba tea.

Goody bags filled with festive treats were distributed to students on both campuses while faculty and staff received special tokens of appreciation. As the Lunar New Year festivities come to a close, Sierra Canyon School wishes everyone a joyous and prosperous Year of the Dragon.

A resounding thank you to the DEI Cultural Celebrations Committee, who collaborated closely with Justin and Mallory Lee (Nathaniel '35) and Tina Ji (Daniel L. '32) to spearhead the Lower Campus events, as well as the Upper Campus Chinese Heritage Parent Association, who worked closely with Laura Xu (Charlie C. '26) and Amy Wang (Zydon Y. '25) to organize the Upper Campus events. Together, they made this extraordinary celebration possible. We also extend a special thank you to all the parents, faculty, staff, and students who have contributed their efforts this week, both on campus and behind the scenes, to bring the beauty and excitement of the Lunar New Year to Sierra Canyon.
